How To Play New to the game? No worries. Here we'll teach you how to play the game, without just sticking you with the manual. If you still have any questions, just email me and I'll be sure to answer them as best as I can. - The NES Monster First off, I'll tell you what all of the buttons do: Directional pad: Moves Graham in the corresponding buttons; left and right also move the cursor in the in-game menu. Select: Brings up the in-game menu. Start: Pauses the game. A Button: Brings up the in-game menu with the cursor over common tasks, also 'clicks' your mouse on whatever location you have it over, and closes a dialogue box once you're done reading it. B Button: Cancels a command and exits a menu. Movement: Left Down Right Up
Up & Left Up &
Right Down & Right Down & Left It may seem trivial now, but there will be many pits and cliffs in the game that you might fall over if you don't master how to move around correctly. There are other methods of movement, but we'll cover those later. Right now, these are the basics of movement.
This is the menu as it appears on the top of your screen after hitting 'select.'
Here's what the options are:
1. Continue exploring: Exit the menu and walk around using the directional pad. 2. Move to click: Move around the screen using the cursor to point and click where you want to move. This is very useful later in the game when there are pits and cliffs that you might fall off of. 3. Examine: You can look at almost anything using this feature. It tells you about your surroundings, which can be very useful in finding helpful items and suspicious areas. 4. Talk: You can talk to anyone you see in the game, just click the arrow on who you want to talk to. 5. Take: If an item looks useful, try picking it up! Sometimes the item you want is in containers like cupboards or drawers, so keep an eye out. 6. Item slot: This is a slot for you to keep something in your inventory out for quick access. The game has many situations where time is an issue, so be sure to be prepared. 7. Inventory: From here you can check your current progress on the game, as well as access any of your inventory items you might want to use. If you don't want to use anything, just click 'OK' to exit. 8. Menu: After hitting 'Save', you can save your progress in two slots (see saving your game below), or if you've got a pen and paper handy, you can jot down the code it gives you and type it in again later when you want to pick up where you left off. There's also a 'Restore' option from which you can load a game you've previously saved or input your saved game code. You can also restart the game if you think you really screwed up, which can happen a lot on your first time through. 9. Sound: Don't like the tunes? Turn them off here, as well as sound effects if you're that inclined. Saving
your game: Then select 'save' from the menu that pops up. Either jot down the password it gives you... Or save the game in a file for quicker access later. After that you'll be asked to name the file; it will then be kept for you to load anytime you wish by hitting 'restore' from the menu and selecting your saved game from the file with the name you gave it. If you want to make sure you jotted the code down right, you can hit 'Check' and input the code. It will tell you if you got it right. 'Escape' of course goes back to the main menu. |
